CERTENTIC offers owners of popular brands and consumers an easy-to-use platform. Consumers can be confident in their buying decisions by checking if an article was actually made by the brand owner and is 100% genuine. They can instantly get in touch with the brand owner, share their experiences and find reviews on social media. Trademark owners can increase their sales through consumers’ awareness of and trust in their brands. Since product counterfeiting is a worldwide problem, we offer our platform on a global scale.
How it began…
The CERTENTIC story began in January 2015 during a holiday trip to the Canary Islands by our founder, Jens Spaniel. While visiting a perfumery, he wondered why the perfumes were so inexpensive compared to Germany. Of course, he doubted that they were the genuine brand articles, and an idea was born: Wouldn’t it be nice if consumers could scan a unique QR code on the package to verify the authenticity of the product? Existing barcode labels on packages do not cover this requirement. Back at the hotel, he searched the Internet for existing services – and he found nothing.
Starting to build
CERTENTIC was founded and registered in Germany in April 2015. With his more than 20 years of experience as a software architect and project manager in logistics and as a Certified Scrum Master, Jens Spaniel began designing the CERTENTIC be certain service. He built and managed a team of developers which implemented the idea as a scalable Software-as-a-Service solution. A first prototype was available in December 2015.
The solution was presented at Beauty 2016, an international trade fair for the beauty industry in Düsseldorf (Germany) and was introduced for the first time to brand owners of cosmetics and body care products. In April of that year, the CERTENTIC be certain service was honored by Initiative Mittelstand with their “Best of 2016” Award in the category Auto ID/RFID.
Since that time, continuous improvements have been made to the solution. As an agile team, spread over three continents, we work hard to satisfy our customers’ needs and improve the consumers’ buying experience.
